Time to replace this lens?

I've placed an order for the new Pentax 100mm macro lens with the idea of selling my current A 100mm f2.8 Macro to partially fund it - but giving it a little spin in the garden today then maybe not?

Why on earth would you want to part with this lens?:

These pictures are superb, both technically and artistically. I luv 'em.

One could say that your artistic intent has been realised thanks to the capabilities of a fine lens. That having the new 100mm macro as well would expand the scope for fully realising that intent. That the new HD D-FA 100mm macro is actually a replacement for the current D-FA 100mm macro, not the A 100mm macro. And that having more than one macro lens at the same focal length would provide different photographic experiences. Etc. etc. etc. If you try hard, it's possible to think of lots of reasons for keeping the A while also getting the new one .

What everyone else says. These are great images, the lens works brilliantly.

Thanks for all the comments - and agreed I'm not sure I should part with this one, I'll wait until I've got the new Pentax 100mm and see if the advantages are great enough to convince me to sell (or not).

The flaws of these old lenses make their images look special. The new one will probably take very clinical images that look good on the cover of a magazine.

These shots are all superb, a couple magazine worthy ones too - but they all look like they were shot with a special lens.

They've got a certain Takumar quality about them - which isn't really that surprising. I'm just glad he's reconsidering selling it. His sales are too tempting by far!
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass
