Congrats. - I chose to upgrade one of my K-5's to a k5IIs. Actually I would have been happy with either a K-II5s or a K-5II, but the 's' version was a decent price

It's always great to get something new in and the K-5 IIs is well proven and should be a pleasure to use.

Are those Aussie dollars, Gary? If so, that's about £365 - a bargain of the kind I haven't seen around these parts.

Was this the recent BH Photo deal in the USA?
Pentax themselves over there have the DA 50mm f1.8 cheap also for instance. Regional pricing frustrates me, NZ doesn't factor at all normally. eg

US dollars and the deal is at B&H.
I'm now of the opinion that the K5 II will prove to be the pinnacle of the Pentax APS-C DSLR's. Overall, it has the best of all worlds. I was seriously considering an upgrade to a D7100 from my D7000 but after buying the K3 I realised that wasn't the way to go.
Somewhere, there's a balance of just the right amount of pixels for a given area and I think that 16Mp is the sweet spot for APS-C.
I hope that if/when Ricoh introduce a 35mm format DSLR, it will be 24Mp as the current offerings from others are spectacular.....we just need that Pentax magic on our own version.

Virtually echoes my reasoning for selling the K-3 and part exchanging my 2 year old K-5II for a new IIs. I would have loved to have kept the K-3 as well but I knew I would be getting rid of my 7D for the 7DII in the very near future and IMO the K-5II/s are possibly the best cameras Pentax are likely to make for a long while.

Some interesting thoughts. I upgraded from K20D to K5IIs nearly two years ago and have been very pleased with the results, and certainly not tempted to replace it with a K3. I looked at the 7D briefly as a friend has one, and while the autofocus, metering and low-light performance seemed way ahead of the K20 I thought with carefully taken shots I was actually getting nicer-looking images.
I may be proved wrong, but I wonder if with current technology there are compromises starting to appear above about 20MP on 18x24ish sensors?
