Wonderful - it looks like an illustration from one of the books. My Grandsons will love it when I show them, and be very jealous too.

Berwyn is a classic location for shots like this on the Llangollen Railway. I know the kids will love it but its a bit undignified for a really useful engine like a Class 5 to have a cartoon face. Non-the-less a good phot in a beautiful area.

The shot I actually went to take was without a train, I've been asked a few times for photos of this location and have been waiting for the autumn for some additional colour in the trees.
Having said that I do like the shot, face and all and I'll definitely be revisiting too to catch one of the steam trains in their normal livery, I can't believe I've never tried this spot before

I really like this shot, I don't think you could have found a better location for this picture of Douglas. A few years ago I went to a Thomas the tank engine Christmas Special day at Quainton near Aylesbury. The most dissappointing Christmas ever! There must have been about 50 metres of track and we just went back and forth until the worst Santa and his elves said 'we've only got colouring books left' When I wanted to get what I thought would be a good shot, Edward's face started to fall off!

But if it gets kids interested in steam engines it must be a good thing. The love of steam needs to be nurtured in the young or all these beautiful engines are doomed to follow so many others to the scrap yard.

I think it works out well for both enthusiasts and kids, the Thomas weekends are 2/3 times a year at the most and judging by the number of people on the train generate some much needed income which keeps the trains running for everyone to enjoy. I'm sure it also pays towards the railway having "guest" engines which it does every year, generating even more interest - it certainly will next April when Tornado goes on the line at Llangollen, don't think I'll be able to get this spot quite so easily that week!!
