It's a collectable item, and one from Angenieux, one of the most reputable optical designers ever (Angenieux stands for many revolutionary optical designs that still today are being used - retrofocus type opticals to name just one - and had a reputation only equalled by Zeiss and Leitz.)

I bet if you would use this lens on a DSLR, purple fringing caused by outdated coating asside, it would beat a lot of todays optics...

But, of course, how much one would pay depends on the person who pays it...

I know of the well known reputation of Angenieux optics. But somehowe I think starting of this auction with this starting bid, is a bit on the......optimistic side.

I think I'm just about spent up on lenses, so it's time to go out and start making some more images with the ones I've already got.

In a couple of weeks time I'll be putting various Pentax and Olympus classic lenses and bodies on eBay. These will be screw thread and OM vintage and at first glance seem to be very nice indeed. A professional friend of mine has retired and just handed me a huge Billingham bag full of these items.

Every time i open another pouch on the bag some more enticing goodies fall out, but there's been no time to ssess what is there yet.

I agree Martin, he must be joking, 1100quid + vat for that grubby old thing.

George you say its quite cheap for such a good lens, how do you quantify that : If you had a picture taken with a pentax 50mm FA 1.4 and another taken with that watchamacallit lens, would you say the quality of the shot is worth the extra 1000quid you would pay for it. :

I am a little alarmed by any auction which claims that something has happened (note the past tense) 4 years after my death. Especially if it is supposed to have been done by my daughters (of which I have none that I know of).

Okay, so if we all club together it wouldn't cost us more than £50 each, I say that's a worthwhile purchase to see an Australian wish he'd thought a little more before typing...
