These damned spammers

People joining for the specific reason of spamming used to be rare but it is becoming more frequent. I have always been surprised at the absolute ease of joining this community. Ought it to be made a bit more difficult with some kind of initial vetting of postings or probation?

The best thing to do with spam posts is to ignore them. They will be spotted and removed the next time a sweep of the forums is done.

In fact, the number of spammers getting as far as posting is vastly reduced compared to its worst of maybe 100 posts a day. Now it's a trickle, but whether or not any members notices them will depend on the time logged in and when the checks happen to be made.

How many times have you repeated that message John? Do members take notice?, I will answer that, No.
We all have the responsibility to assist the admin staff in this respect, I am sure they have better things to do with their time.

Thanks to the mods, I don't find this an issue, to be honest.

Perhaps I've been fortunate and my visits happen shortly after a sweep by them.

Please don't link to or repeat spam posts because it perpetuates the problem. They will be noticed and removed, so no need to reply to them. When we do reply, they get a notification and that just encourages them to return.
Best regards, John

Thanks Vic but I am fully aware of the procedure and have used it many many times over the years (as JR also knows). I was merely pointing out three threads that had been missed where spammers had posted fluff in order to have their spammy signature seen.

JR, Linking to another post on this forum is not replying to that post.. The spammer will receive no alert.
