The Phantom Knitter

Those of you living in the north may have seen a BBC news report about "the phantom knitter" striking again in Saltburn. Basically every couple of years - overnight - somebody sneaks on to the pier and decorates about 50 meters of the hand rail with knitted toys,

This time with an Olympic theme - amazing work and great fun. I have loads of shots of them - I posted one in the gallery and at Larry's request - here is a selection of my favourites

c+c always welcome but please remember these were just for fun - hope they raise a smile as they did with me whilst taking the shots

They are fantstic Carl. Its a wonder the local papers haven't tracked down the phantom knitter.

They are brilliant. I wonder what they look like after some windy wet weather. Do the phantom knitters remove them?

What a hoot of a thing to do! Congratulations to you on capturing such a colourful record of the outbreak.

There have been a few instances of street bollards being muffled up in knitwear, but these were a pathetic effort compared with Saltburn's.

If anyone wants to see the bollards, they are either in Maggie Jones' or in John Kennedy's blog pages.

Still smiling...

Brilliant Carl, the concept and the colours. I've never heard of it before.

These really are fantastic - congratulations are due to

1) the phantom knitter/s of Saltburn

and

2) the photographer who actually managed to hold his camera still, instead of laughing like mad at the wonderful scenes and getting wobbly pictures.

Sorry, I gave the wrong link to the knitted jackets on the bollards of Brighton. The photos (dull as ditchwater by comparison to the Saltburn ones) are in John Kennedy's Bollards of Britain website. He also has a link to Knit the City, which is cheery.
