No 2 for me as well, the first shot is an ok shot of an interesting feature, although it does look as if the tower is about to fall. No 2 is IMHO a much better, stronger image. Filling the fov and the B&W conversion give it a really strong presence. I would get rid of the metal shed though.

The building on the right is some kind of concrete storage building. The site is owned by Cambridge Water, I assume it's a water tower but don't know if it still used for that. It's probably full of mobile phone equipment
I already cloned out some antennas on the lower right side, will get rid of the shed as well.

Great BW shot. Luckily, the mobile phone transmitters hardly show in the BW version. I bet they stand out in the colour one?

They're not too bad actually! They must have rusted or something, because they blend in quite well. (Or perhaps the mobile phone companies aren't as stupid as they seem, and chose a brick-like colour deliberately!)

Thanks Doc. I did consider the scale issue, but as it was apparently uninhabited and behind locked gates in the end I just crossed my fingers and hoped the size of the bricks would suggest a scale

I think that must be deliberate policy, probably enforced by English Heritage or the local planning dept. Still prefer the BW though
