Hey, i really like the first picture...its so grand and the wide angle makes it very powerful so I took the liberty of giving this an HDR look...i thought the subject lent itself to HDR...tell me what you think

I like the first picture too, very imposing. I would crop out the electrical box in the lower left corner.

What color is it really? Dark or light gray?

I like the first one best. You managed to get all the shadow detail necessary without compromising the aged look of this massive monument.
It still shows the pastel subdued tones of the sandstone (or whatever material is used) Looking at those flood lights I can image a re-visit around dusk when it is bathing in artificial light. Well done.

As for the HDR version?? IMO it looks overcooked and kills the atmosphere.
The halo around the edge gives it away and the dark contrasty columns seem totally out of place with the rest of the scene. Sorry.

Fair judgement seeing as it took me 5 mins...i just think that the original is a bit too hazy and a well worked on HDR could work
possibly just raising the contrast would get rid of the haze.

Thanks guys for the input it is a great building to photograph and from iside the pillows you can get some very nice shots as well, well worth a visit if you are in the area at any time. As for the col I would say pic no 1 is as near as to the true col the crop is a little light to be honest. Thanks for the HDR Jerome but sorry Im not a fan of HDR. I will be revisiting on a hot summer night when the lights are on it.

High Dynamic Range or when used wrong Hideous Disastrous Result.

Very bold image, I like it. Not so keen on the b+w version

HDR means the photographer takes up to seven different exposures maybe 1 stop apart, from under to over exposed. These are then combined in a program like Photomatix so that detail is present from the deepest shadow to the brightest highlight.

The effect can be superb, but is often overdone.

Yes its a shame that the b/w makes the sky very boring
could be a very good b/w if channel mixing was used

I googled a bit. And found explanation already. even a demo in youtube.
