You got the angle of light just right: it makes all the difference in shots like this.
Best wishes,

Andrew

Very good iBerg. The ruined unreadable names make it all the more poignant.

Light shows the texture perfectly, very nice.

Very nicely exposed for the subject, which is a touch on the gloomy side. Good shot nonetheless.
What happened to the headstone? Is that weathering or vandalism?

Wonderful quality to this image i-Berg. As has already been said the light picks out the lettering on the gravestone to great effect.
I'm still trying to work out the meaning of the title 'The Mirror'. Is it just a mirror on life and death or is there some deeper meaning which eludes me?

Thanks all - I was fortunate to have been there at the right time for the sun.

The stone has been badly weathered - it seems it was made of a shaly / sandstone material. Given the age of that part of the cemetery, and the children's graves surrounding it, it had occurred to me that the parents were unlikely to have been well off (hence no marble).

This grave appears to have been one for three siblings. The only age visible is the top one of course.

David - the title was intended to reflect (pun intended) the passage of time above and below, and in ourselves. So you picked it, of course.

The total anonymity is really sad. I add my congratulations to a moving image - but I suggest that it would be better if not cropped quite so tightly.

On a lighter mode: I think that the family could bring a good case for compensation against the stonemason, for use of very inferior material. Or is that in bad taste?

Very good shot! The patterns in the eroded stone add to the gloomy dark quality of the image. I also would have preferred a less tight crop, especially on the sides.

Thanks again - point taken re the crop, I will post a 'loosened-up' version at some point.
