The Lafone Cup

Some of you may remember from my post the other day that on Thursday night I went to The York Hall in Bethnal Green, East London to give my support and encouragement to my work colleague Dave Jaques who was taking part in a work related boxing competition.

These images were taken using a K-7, DA*60-250mm and Metz 58 flash. I didn't have the best position for photography and this was my first sports event so C&C are most welcome!

Throughout the evening I used AF centre/auto and MF.

Before the evening started I spoke with the official photographer and in case anyone is interested he was using a D700 with a 24-70 lens.

The rest of Dave's photos are on my Flickr page.

3rd one is the best for me. Great expression on his face!

fourth one for me, terrific expression captured.
Did you capture RAW? seems a tad underexposed, you could easily sort it out. But I could be wrong, may be its just my impression, am no expert on this, I just go with the flow

Yes I used DNG and I was playing around with the settings on the flash and some of them throughout the night did seem lighter than others.

Sorry please excuse my ignorance, but what's the difference between DNG and PEF files?

Well on the K-7 the DNG files are compressed so are smaller in size than the PEF files. On the K20D the situation is reversed.

Woops, I also meant the 4th pic . The expression I liked was the fierce one as he landed the body blow, not the rather dazed and gormless one when he's sitting in his corner

#4 for me as well. But who won?

Dave got through to the final fight but the ref stopped it not long after the first round had started. He was caught unawares and hit the canvas not long after I took #4, he got up straight away but the ref wasn't happy with that. Up until that point he was doing really well and we all thought that he was going to win.
