Pentax K7 - Samyang 14mm F2.8 UMC / SMC A28mm F2.8 - F13 - ISO 100 - Tripod with Remote Control & Mirror Up

An easter break with the family, on a farm near Ashburton, gave me the opportunity to photograph this special location early one morning. I was gifted a brisk and clear morning, and I had the place entirely to myself ...

This last one is 5 bracketed exposures processed in Photomatix Pro 4.5 using the Fusion method, with tweaks to all the sliders. The DR here was extreme and the brackets covered an approx 7 stop range.

Yes, a beautiful time with lovely light ....I also was amazed to be completely alone for the whole 90 minutes I was up there! (Of course, that's exactly the way we landscape people like it )

The tour buses don't start arriving until after 10, and by the time I packed up at 8.30 the light was already intense and harsh.

Thanks for looking Mike.

It's a beast of a climb up there - and well worth the effort in your case Nigel
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass

Looks much better than when I last saw it in 1956, shrouded in mist and rain!

Ah yes, the weather has improved up there since 1956 ..... The car helped me out a good bit of the way up from sea level, but yes, that last bit is a haul (although I generally turn into a frantic running madman when faced with a location like that and limited time with such nice light, I hardly notice any climbing ). Thanks for your comments guys ... Also thanks Gareth (I somehow missed your post earlier) .... That Samyang can do some amazing stuff when stuck right in front of the sun!
