Sometimes don't you find you hit a kind of sweet spot with one image file, something about it that all comes together with the light, compo, colours, processing etc, and just a sort of atmosphere...?

I think I found that with this one from the summer, which is going into the "favourites" category. You don't have to agree of course .....

At the Old Harry Rocks, Studland, Dorset.... K7, D FA 28-105....

I scrolled down, saw the sky and rock, stopped and thought "That's good - light, texture of rock and sky, what's not to like?". Then scolled further and found that there was more to come. The child (yours?) engrossed in what's going on among the rocks takes the picture in a different direction and turns a good picture into an even better one. The solidity of the rock, which is nevertheless being worn away, contrasts with the fragility of the child, who is nevertheless in the process of growing. Questions are asked - what is the child looking at? why is a massive rock and sky so impressive to a grown up but a child turns their back on it, prefering to look at little things?

Yes, you've got a really good one there.

It's a good job that it's me looking at your images, Nigel. My wife is still quite homesick for Dorset and Studland was one of our favourite outings. That's a great shot for all the reasons expressed above.
Regards,
Mike

Superb image Nigel - takes you away from everyday life into the thoughts of a child - well spotted, composed and executed

I did just what Steve described. Your daughter, at the foot of the image popped an extra bit of sparkle into a lovely image.
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass

Yes, Steve has hit quite a few nails on their heads! It's a great analysis.... He's right, the kids are just not so in awe of large scale natural wonders as us. There my daughter was totally absorbed by the tiny shrimps and crabs in the rock pools. I was perfectly pleased about that of course, it meant I was left in peace to dash around getting plenty of shots, something I am rarely given enough time for these days!

Thanks to everyone here for your kind positive responses
