Unless the picture hasnt loaded properly, theres really bad compression on that image, its seperated into like 8x8px blocks towards the outside. Could be photobucket, or the compression in photoshop (if you selected a low quality for the jpg, around 5.)

zoom at around 600%

Otherwise I love the shot, full of interest and nice composition/balance between light and dark.

I can see the pixilation throughout the image but more so in the top left corner.
Perhaps you have over magnified it

Nice shot though but i would have liked to see a bit more of the image in focus.

Thanks for the comments. I have checked the original, there is no pixillation.

The photo is as taken with a sigma 105 macro. No magnifying or cropping in photoshop . The only thing I did was a mono conversion and save it to web for photobucket. So I am a little bemused

When you say you've checked the original, is this the full size original (TIFF or raw for instance) or the original jpeg that you uploaded to Photobucket?

It looks like it's been saved on the lowest quality setting when 'saving for web' in photoshop, but if the original jpeg looked okay, then photobucket must have done something to it.

What a clever bunch you are! I have just upgraded to elements 5 and the default setting is a low JPEG quality

There is just so much to learn - but the big lesson is think before you act

Thanks for you help Dan.

That's okay. For some reason it (I use Elements 4) defaults to low quality every time, whereas version 2 used to use the previous quality setting. Bit of a pain - there's probably an easy way to change it but I just haven't got round to looking for it.

I'll have a quick look now, if I find anything I'll let you know.

Couldn't find anything. Can anybody else help? I'd be really happy if I could set it to 70% as a default, or at least get it to remember what I'd set it to last time I'd saved a file for web.
