Hey guys, I found an old thread the other day on making cable releases.
I got a stereo jack and my old cable release from my mz5 and made a new release for my ist ds2. Works great, and wanted to say thanx.

How do you like your DS2? I've had mine about 3 weeks and I am really pleased. Bought the Pentax18-55 and the Pentax 50-200 and pleased with both. Also use Pentax 80-320, Sigma 105 Macro and Sigma 170-500. So far everything fine.

The cable release and remote control from my MZ6 are the same and saved me some money.

The old posts from this forum really helped me learn it fast. and I just used it to shoot some corporate xmas parties, last one this past sunday.
Indoors and out doors at about -20 c it was flawless.

I take it you are somewhere in the north to be -20C. I retired 6 years ago and realized a life long ambition. I started bird watching daily and hooked up with a bunch of guys in Ontario who are also photographic fanatics - I am the last one to convert to digital. I purchased my wife a Canon S70 (7.1mp) for a trip to Mexico in October, saw the results and took the plunge. Still using the MZ6 but absolutely love the DS2. Unfortunately for the bird watching I took a lucrative consulting contract a year ago (was supposed to be 2 months) and this has curtailed my hobbies. Time to retire again!

I live near "Winterpeg" Manitoba.
I asked about the birding, because I live in a nice country locale and was thinking about setting up a heated bath and feeder outside my window, and webcasting the bird activity through my website. Sort of a birdwatchers voyour cam. Will call it "Bird on a Wire".
I'm not really into birding, but hey, they're there, and some people who are into birding might enjoy popping into my site from time to time to watch them.

The thing I find really helpful is a 2.5mm stereo headphone extension lead. Cost pennies, and works a treat, even though I have a genuine CS-205 cable release

now making an adapter for an old eleincrom radio slave, and a remote light beam trigger .
bursting balloon shots...next month.

I like the idea of the heated bird bath, we have been thinking of that for some time. I take the other baths in for the winter - they are made from a material that won't take the low temperatures. I have a small garden with lots of feeders and birds - maybe I will try the heated bath.
