Since you stated mainly wildlife then I'd agree with John and go the the DA*300 + TCs if necessary. For field sports a 70-200/2.8 is going to be much better, in fact for the X games I used a 50-150 and it was the perfect lense for the job (I had the *300 with me but it was just too long).
If you really only want one lense then look for the now out of production Sigma 100-300/4 (and TC) for an all-in-one solution.
Depending on how you use it (pre-focus for sports) then the 60-250 is a wonderful lense although the AF isn't the fastest.

My first choice was the Sigma 100-300 ... unfortunately... the world has run out of it.. ... i'll keep my eyes open.

I wrote to them in the early '90s regarding the 300/4 APO Tele Macro and 70-210/2.8 APO, I got a reply back stating that if Pentax increased it's market share they would consider making these lenses in Pentax fit. Sigma 70-200 F2.8 or 100-300mm F4 (yes I've got one now!) + Sigma 1.4TC in either case.
I've had the 70-200 & TC for about 3yrs, and I like it a lot.
I got the 100-300 a few months ago from a WTB in this forum. However, I'm not sure about it yet because, although it's supposed to be only a little heavier than the 70-200, it feels a lot more "unweildly". Might be for sale again at the end of the summer!
OTOH, have also got a 55-300mm Pentax for "holiday use", and that seems pretty good from the results I got whilst driving AND using it (when stationary!!!) at Longleat about a month ago
I've had the 70-200 & TC for about 3yrs, and I like it a lot.
I got the 100-300 a few months ago from a WTB in this forum. However, I'm not sure about it yet because, although it's supposed to be only a little heavier than the 70-200, it feels a lot more "unweildly". Might be for sale again at the end of the summer!

K-3 II, K-3 and a K-70 from SRS (having now relegated the K-30 /"K-50" to a backup body), & some Sigma and Pentax lenses (and a lot of old 35mm gear!)

Mainly the Sigma 300mm F2.8 EX DG
Yes it's non SDM (we will have to wait for the mk2 for that) but will give you closest to the best of both worlds of sport and nature. Although I prefer the 500m reach of my old 170-500 for nature, the 300mm is a lot faster and sharper. I have tried one once it it is excellent.
It is a shame that:-
1. Sigma have currently chosen not to produce the 120-300mm F2.8 mk2 with a Pentax mount at the moment (they said they were when it was announced)
2. There is no eqv 200-400mm F4 like Canon and Nikon for Pentax.

Went to SRS today... played around with both the DA 300 and Sigma 150-500 ... though the Pentax DA*300 is undoubtedly a good lens... sharp image quality .... I walked out with a Sigma 150-500 and Sigma 17-70 F2.8-4 and a Tamrac Expedition 7 all for less than my budget (included PX of Tamron 18-250 )
Will play around with the lens soon and post some pics
