Has any one used or are using a teleconverter with their DSLR? and what are your opinions of them.

A lot depends on the lense you are using the TC with as far as IQ and degradation is concerned, however there are some excellent models out there. Personally I have the Tamron x1.4 and Pentax AFA x1.7. Take a look at this thread I put up recently : link

I have three TCs. The tamron 1.4x as it supports SDM autofocus and only costs one stop of light - pretty good performer IMO. I have a kenko teleplus 2x TC which I think is very good quality-wise, although it costs 2 stops and doesn't support SDM so normally means manual focussing (normally does anyway unless it's used with a pretty fast lens). Lastly I have a sigma 1.4x EX TC which only works with sigma lenses as far as I can tell, but it is probably the best of the three quality wise IMO when used with those lenses. Overall none of the TC's are probably as good as a lens of the equivalent length (although the sigma one is very good with the sigma lenses and maybe is) but they are a lot cheaper!

I also have three TCs. The Tamron 1.4x, Kenko (Teleplus) 1.5x SHQ and Teleplus 1.7x SHQ all support SDM autofocus, all were bought secondhand as they are no longer produced in Pentax fitting. I believe you can get a new Teleplus 1.5x TC but AFAIK it does not support SDM. The 1.4x and 1.5x are remarkably good IMHO, the 1.7x degrades IQ further but still very usable.

The following were taken using a K20D DA*300/4 and 1.5x Kenko SHQ TC:
