Teleconverter problem

I have a Vivitar PKA/R Teleconverter.I know I need to remove the Ricoh pin and have done so before on a Viv 28mm so that is fine. The problem is that the diaphram actuator or whatever the tech term is,is not sprung it just flops about. If I attach a A lens then all seems well as the spring in the lens seems to do the work.Is it safe to operate with this converter in such a way,and is it likely that I will have serious issues arising from the lack of return spring.I am reluctant to suck it and see incase the converter damages my GX20.Oh and is it home fixable?I do have two hammers.

Many thanks, mm

I can't imagine it'd cause any problems but I'm not intimate with that TC - are you sure it's meant to have a spring? Sounds like it was designed to rely on the lens for its return...

If you have a photo or two a diagnosis would be easier.

I have the macro version of this teleconverter and had to take it apart to extract the Ricoh pin.
The actuator flops around on mine as well, from what I could see when it was apart there is no need for a spring as it works fine without.

Thanks for that,I have never seen a TC with floppy actuator and assumed it was a fault.I will give it a go.Many thanks.

Ok ,Ricoh pin removed and a nightmare had reassembling.I put the TC on an A lens and then attached to camera body. The camera does not recognise aperture value,it acts like an M lens.Am I missing something obvious?

Thanks, mm

Have a look at the pins and see if one has fallen out when you reassembled it.

All pins good on second reassembly I just tried scraping paint off the mount as I think I read somewhere that was a fix for something. It didn't work but I had nothing to lose. It's probably time to give up now,Idont want to ruin other bits in a forlorn attempt to make an old part work.I do not want pride and stubborness to bite me.

Thanks for your help, mm

Dont know about the pin, but my extension tubes dont have springs on the stop down mechanism either, its probably the design of your converter.
