I have no quibble with my Sigma 70 -300 even though it is the more modest DL version. I particularly like its macro mode. You have to remember that this is a budget lens and if you want the best you'll have to go for a Pentax lens but that will cost you a lot more.
Most people just want a good lens within their budget, I'd recommend the APO 70-300 Sigma if you are only spending £150-ish.

It's all a matter of cost.
i use a Sigma 70-200 f2.8 EX DG APO - and a 1.5x or 2x converter when required.
I think it's a great lens and love using it - but then it costs a couple of times as much as a cheap 70-300...

Maybe the Bigma will be to your taste - the Sigma 50-500mm or their 80-400?

First question is WHY were you dissapointed with the 70-300? was it just the focal length or a combination of that and the maximum aperture or even the quality of the lens?
If it was just the focal length what do you intend to use the lens for and are you sure that going up to 400mm will then be long enough? I just bought the Sigma 50-500 for shooting birds because I thought my Pentax 80-320 wasn't long enough, but I am already considering a converter as a future purchase for the Sigma.

i think that these lenses are too dark, it means that when you use them the camera works slowly, because if lense has zoom for example 50-400 f4- 5.6
i think that better choise take 300mm 2.8 plus x2
