It looks like it's a standard Micro USB 5-pin.

Not sure it's a standard Micro-B, looks proprietory to me

Those are supposed to be the standard Micro-B, and as with the diagrams, they have 5 centrally placed pins.

Which supports the opinion that the Pentax connector is a proprietory variant on Micro-B.

@Anvh - Yeh, HTC call their connector Micro-B Extended, but is supposed to be baackwards compatible. From my scouting about, the USB Standard looks to be one of the most abused standards about

Edit - sorry about the image sizes...

You're right. Apologies!

If, however, the eBay link is to be believed, there must be a 'standard' for this plug if it's used by other camera manufacturers?

Scroll down about 1/2 way.

Looks like we're not alone on this one. It appears to be a 'standard' camera one, as it looks to have the USB pins, and spaces for the extra AV connections used on a lot of cameras.

Looking up 'usb7' gives this

Well spotted

I did do some searching but in the time available didn't see that URL.

Erm, the Ebay listing I linked to earlier gives a host of other camera models by Samsung, Olympus, Nikon and more!

Seems to be a 'standard' where cameras are concerned.

Mustn't forget the Zenits, or folders, or...

PPG entries.

Yeh, it appears to be a standard used on Cameras but not a standard USB connector.

But then, the USB interface has been abused ever since it was introduced!

It looks like the connector is refered to as 'USB7', and is used be a number of Cameras due to it's ability to carry the USB signal, and has support for an additional three pins for AV signals.

The lead must be standard because I've used the same USB lead on my Pentax DSLRs, Fuji and Canon point and shoots and my multi format card reader.

Cheers

Card reader??? All the card readers I have use the "standard-issue" USB plug with equi-spaced pins.

Which is back where I started...

I find that hard to believe, unless Dark is talking about an older Pentax DSLR, as the Canon connector is not the same as the Pentax and Nikon connector.

My card reader uses USB Mini-B, as do most of the ones I've come across.

Dark, could you give the models of the Cameras that you're refering to?

This is the link I meant to use last time, instead of doubling up on the Hardware blog one...
