Last year at Photokina I failed to find anyone from Tamron to answer my question about the lack of Pentax lenses from them so out of curiosity, and just to see if they would reply, this weekend I sent an e-mail off to Tamron Japan asking if they had any plans to bring out their newer lenses in a Pentax fitting.

Sadly this is the reply I got:

Quote:
Thank you very much for your inquiry.
Up to now there are no plans in this direction. Nevertheless, you can be assured that Tamron observes the market very carefully.
We will certainly pass your message along to the appropriate department.
So it looks like we'll have to rely on Sigma to provide the third party lenses - something I pointed out to Tamron too .

Should you wish to express your interest in Tamron lenses - so they know there is a market out there you can do so by filling in the contact form .

Thanks for the heads up Gwyn. I just sent them a message via the form you linked. Here's what I sent them:

Quote:
Just inquiring, why Tamron no longer seems to be producing newer lenses for the K-mount (Pentax). Considering that the Pentax K5 has been selling well (probably not well enough for you guys) and they have recently been injected new life with the Ricoh acquisition, I would like to find out what Tamron's plans are for the future. Any information you can provide will be most appreciated!

Sincerely,

A Pentaxian, and Tamron User
It would be nice if other Pentaxians get on this. At the very least, we can create some "noise"!

I wonder if there's more to this than meets the eye, some sort of wrangling between Tamron and Pentax. It seems strange for them to just drop support for the K mount, especially as Pentax have been doing relatively well for the last few years. They're certainly on more of an upward trajectory than previously.
