oh my - that second one makes me shiver just looking at that water .
How did you take the first one - it's fascinating me - the second building appears almost vertical , but the orangy one is definitely not quite 'true' .
Inquiring minds , who can't eve take a decent pic yet , want to know

The marvels of a 10mm lens! It's basically a case of converging verticals, which is what happens with these ultrawides if you don't hold it perfectly horizontal.
Brett I like the orange building very much, but not so keen on the distorted cars and street in the bottom right.

Just checked-out the rest of the set: they're very good. This looks like a most interesting corner of the world, Bret. Love the colours and the crumbling walls...
I'm not mad on the effect of that lens, though: a bit too radical for my tastes (don't know why I'm always handkering after wider lenses, 24mm- in old money- is quite sufficient for my needs!)
Best wishes,
Andrew

These are with the 10-24. I did go a bit mad with it, but we had pretty much no time (we spent that eating and drinking good food and decent beer for half the price of similar in Helsinki...) and the 28-70 was tucked away. I am tempted to crop the top one to the wall of the building and the bottom - well, I like the mild curvature against the steel of the boat.
The crumbling walls I find fascinating and depressing at the same time.
thanks for the comments; these are just in the old town in Tallinn. If you're in Helsinki, pop on over for a few hours, it's a very, very different feel to the concrete bunker mentality - along with strong classical elements - that happen to populate a lot of Helsinki.

Bret,
Do the inhabitants of the Baltic Republics and Finland speak the same language (excuse my ignorance)?

The first shot is impressive, most likely it's the wide angle that does it.

no. Finnish in Finland and Estonian / Latvian / Lithuanian in the appropriate republics. You'll also get pretty far at least in the tourist spots with English. Bret,

The languages are similar (but damned difficult to learn, I've been trying for the last five years and at this stage my German was nearly perfect) but far enough away to be confusing. Similar to French / Spanish / Italian or German / Swedish / Dutch / Danish / Norwegian.
