What's the difference between a t-mount and M42 adapter?

Can I use a t-mount to mount any of the thread-mount lenses onto a K-mount/bayonet bodies?

A T mount allows a T-Mount screw fit lens to be mounted on a variety of camera bodies. You just buy the mount for the camera you have. This screw fit is not 42 x 1mm. You would need a T mount to put one of these lenses on a Pentax M42 mount body.

An M42 adapter allows use of a Pentax/Praktica 42 x 1mm screw mount lens on a bayonet body.

Thanks John.

So, if I have a t-mount lense but no t-mount I can't just use it on a Pentax screw-type camera. Glad you got that sorted for me.

Much thanks

I suppose that there might be an adapter that allows use of T-mount lenses on M42 cameras, but you'll need to research it. It has to do with the back-focus.

There are indeed such adapters - I've used them. T mount lenses are designed for use with them, so there won't be a back focus problem.
