Super Program (Super A - U.K.) Problem Diagnosed

Mac,
The Super A is designed to stay on 1000 sec for the first three exposures when you close the back so that you can load the film quickly. With the lens cap on on in auto mode, it would otherwise set a shutter speed of 30 seconds and take for ever to load the film.
Trust the Pentax engineers - they know what they are doing.

A while ago I told you that I was entrusted with a Super Prpgram from a guardian angel ( who is launching a web site presently - hint).
I was about to PM said angel, but then thought that someone else may have a similar problem with an a camera like this. Intermitantly, when a film is loaded or the back is opened, the Auto or Manual setting will stick at 1000sec. Flash at 125 will work, as will B and Lock.
Well guess waht - I think my problem has to do with the little camera back closed switch. Everything works fine when the back is open, and the problem only starts when the back is closed. So far, playing with opening and closing the camera back while winding the advance MAY clear the problem - and it seems to stay corrected for the duration of the roll. 72 exposures anyone?
I'm going to send this little gem to Eric Hendrickson when my A zoom lens finally clears Canda Customs - at least now I can tell him what to look for.
Cheers
