Summer Projects

Anyone got specific plans this Summer that they intend to photograph or just a case of seeing where your travels/holidays take you and enjoy exploring somewhere new with your camera in hand?

I have just acquired some motion control kit, so I will be hopefully be putting up some timelapse stuff.

I also am planning a core shot next month... weather permitting!

Another plan is to shoot some multi-row panoramic images.

And finally... i might bugger off to Manchester airport and do some plane snapping!

Sounds like you've got plenty of plans you're working on Spad, look forward to seeing the results! For us non-astro people there's a couple of inspirational ideas in there too, panoramic and aircraft - Thanks for sharing.

No travels or holidays for me, thanks to Mrs L's health (or lack thereof). But I haven't done any serious macro for a while so the macro rig is being rebuilt (it has to be dismantled when a visitor needs to use the bedroom ) with the aim of doing some interesting things during the summer. And I might just think about getting a substantial tripod (cheap and used) for macro work outside because the Benbo Trekker can get horribly unstable when there are focus racks and a geared head on it.

Same here sadly, but we can get out and about, so more walking shots as always!

I can recommend a Giottos Aluminium one. I use one for long exposure stuff, so like me you need something stable. Don't get a carbon theyre too light! The one I'd recommend is the GTMTL9261B. I have one and use it with my Star Tracker. They're pretty reasonable used.

Also another good thing I do is use dive weights to steady the tripod. I use 6 or 7 kilo on mine. Makes it hugely more stable.

I know how your good lady feels. I too have health issues... it can get you down veing restricted. Nearly everything I shoot is shot right next to my van. I am limited as to where I can get, and sonetimes I get really frustrated as I lack inspirational places to shoot....

For myself, i will just be continuing my normal routine of early morning walks and seeing what I can capture - always assuming I can steer clear of marauding cattle and the odd rambunctious dog.

Out of interest what macro subjects do you shoot?

Sounds like what my dog can be like when he gets excited. 30+ Kg of rambunctiousness is not something you want to encounter when on a peaceful walk, which is one reason why he is always on a lead. The other reasons are to stop him eating things he shouldn't (he knows where the dead and decaying deer is! ) and because he has absolutely no recall whatsoever so we could lose him for days or more.

Plants, flowers, bits of plants and flowers and anything that takes my fancy. I've even done dried paint on a stirrer. Lichen is on the agenda. But I don't do dead insects, eyes of flies, that sort of thing.

Dive weights - brilliant! I was wondering about gazebo weights - thought there were some in the garage from years ago but can't find them. What I'd really like is a big block of platinum, but the budget won't stretch to that...

This summer (and it seems like every summer!) I plan to spend more time taking landscapes and wildlife. No doubt the odd steam engine may find its way into frame as well.
I have a stack of filters that I have never made the best use of , so maybe this year.............
