I've tries the elenchrom transmitter...a little tempermental...
a cheap transmitter (don't remember the brand) a little more tempermental.
pocket wizzard works.
seems some sit better and connect to the center contact than others...
the nikon hotshoe adaptor works great, as does the 360 in manual mode with optical slaves onthe studio units.

I am pretty sure it was pocket wizards we were using at the time.pocket wizzard works.

The other thing I wondered was the IR used a 1.5 v AA wheras the radio I got used a higher voltage lithium battery (Not sure what the pocket wizzards used). Do you think that could make a difference to triggering?

This sounds like a new world of problems to face, I heard posket wizards are ok so I shall see what I can test my K10D with.

If you're looking to purchase studio lighting, then I've heard very good reviews about the Elinchrom DLite-2 Kit. A snip at around £400. (And www.ephotozineshop.com did have a couple of mail-order return ones that were cheaper still)
(I very, very nearly went that route, but I ended up with an AF360 and AF540 that work just fine for me with a shoot-through umbrella).
Regarding the Pentax engineer's comment - you should've mentioned that first. Maybe they're right. Who knows! As you can see from the thread most don't have any issues with Pentax (just the studio gear ).

Thanks Matt, sorry it's the way us techies (being a techie for Vodafone) write and I will certainly look into that. I got the firmware upgraded on the DL and K10D so I can do tests. £400 is cheap so I could be using the credit card once I get my limit maxxed up again.

Not sure if this is the same problem but a few weeks back I went to a studio flash workshop where there were several light setups.
The setup using a radio trigger worked fine with my K10 but there was another setup using sync cable or IR trigger. Unfortunately having only had the camera a couple of days I had not noticed it had no sync socket so I didnt have an adapter so had to rely on a borrow IR hot shoe transmitter. This was very unreliable. The test button worked fine but you could see from the activity light that many times the transmitter did not fire when the shutter did. Mine was the only one with this problem and nobody could work out why.
I have since bought myself a cheap radio trigger and has been OK so far.
P.S. I was using 1.0 firmware at the time and pop up flash did not work due to the preflash as mentioned above.
EDIt: It was a cheap unbranded trigger not a Bowens or Elinchrome one (The flashes we were using)
