White plastic sheeting, made for protecting from decorating splashes. Might need several layers as it is thin but you can also defuse light through it as in a light tent. Last one I got was from the Pound shop.
Black. Black velvet is good.
Try the black weed control fabric sold in garden centres, much cheaper. Saw a whole Santas grotto made of the stuff, did a good job too. Can of course be pinned to frames or draped over whatever. Last I got was from one of those cheap houswares shops, £2.99 for 1x10m roll.

Any dealer should be able to help, and a copy of Amateur Photographer will offer you a variety of alternatives.

Calumet do a good range of papers and cloths as well as support systems.

So, paper or cloth? And where can I source such materials?
