Strap mounts

Remember me (free flash man Ledbury) I have 2 Tamrac straps both brand new, 1 wide pro. Type and 1 neoprene shock absorber strap, they will be for sale when I get round to putting them on this site.
The pat remaining on the camera is about 84mm.
Come over and have a look.

Jim I remember your generosity well and the flash is used and valued. I'd be interested in the neoprene one I think provided the card bag thing can be removed. All I need is a simple strap with no bright branding, neoprene is nice as it boinks but it must also grip and that's where my cheap one failed the swine.

Do you want to PM me with a price? To be honest much as I'd love to visit Ledbury the cost in fuel would be more than the cost of the strap! I don't think my long suffering wife is out that way again any time soon but I'll ask her.

I simply discarded the neck-strap and using a wrist-strap now, might that also be a solution?

Not if you want two hands free - and some of these straps will convert to shorter 'hand' straps anyway.

I tried a wrist strap, struggled with it for a week before I ditched it, I just couldn't come to grips with it.

It seems to me you've the problem that the strap goes over the camera and not underneath it so your hand will never be on the grip if you let go of the camera. I might be wrong though but I want to be proven wrong now, it would be a nice solution to some of my problems.

The cheap crappy one I bought shortens to one you can just about use as a wrist strap although really it's a secure hand strap if you see what I mean.

I believe the Optech will permit the removal of the long strap and connect the two shorter lengths to create a hand or wrist strap. I imagine the Lowepro does the same.

Is the strap you use a wrist loop rather than strap?

No a proper wrist strap not a simply loop around your wrist.
It looks a bit like this.

That's as I thought so the straps I'm referring to work towards that but are nowhere near as good (or big).

I wouldn't fancy that arrangement.

Nobody is the same Mike but it works for me.
When I had the neck strap on the camera I would wind it around my wrist and hold the camera in my hand but it doesn't really do anything, if I would let the camera fall, the strap wouldn't have saved it I think.

my wrist strap is a bit differend then that one though.
You see the strap around his wrist, that loops around my wrist on his own with a quick release on it, securing my hand inside the wriststrap.
Then another strap goes over the back of your hand and attach to the camera, that one is pretty lose.
If i let go of the camera my finger tips come at the front of the camera grip so your hand is free to move around the camera and isn't tightly strapped against it.

Also the most important thing of all is that the base that you screw under the camera, has a screw threat in the screw so to speak so the place you mount your tripod stays the same.

I found this camera case if you do a lot of hiking.

I do a lot of hiking and the K20D with battery grip can be a bit heavy running round in the woods. This case seems to have everything you would need.

Corks that looks complicated!

I bought a messenger bag from TKMax for ten pounds which happily sits on a shoulder but when I'm using the camera that too goes on a shoulder. I also have a back pack for hiking but nothing so flash as the one you mention!

Stefan, the wrist strap sounds like something I'd use, but the original complaint remains... switching to a strap or removing quickly. I guess I'm spoiled by my old slr's, just unhook and go.

In researching I just found these. link The idea is good, but I don't know about the quality or whether I would trust those clips.

Those clips look much the same as most you'll find on straps I think certainly similar to the cheap one I bought which was fine.

I don't know if you want to update to a K7 when it gets out but that one has other strap mounts by the look of it so maybe you get lucky and get what you wished for.
