yeah that really is the point. find what works for you.
In my old job (bouncer), way back when...I used to tie my ties in a double windsor, then cut the tie in the back, and sew on velcro strips. One time (there were a couple) this guy tried to grab me by my tie...by the time he realized I wasn't in it, I had ducked under his arm, stepped behind him and elbo'd him in the kidney.
Nothing like pee'ing red at the hospital for a week to make a big bully re-think the whole "Pickin' on a little guy" routine! So I've always been adverse to dangling things around my neck!
Plus I know how to fall without hurting myself.
So I go with what works for me. Many years and no gear broken yet!
