Sticky thumb wheel problem.

Hi Mike,
I experienced a similar "problem" with my *ist D. The first time I noticed the lack of functionality of the camera's thumb wheels was while trying to change shutter and aperature settings.
To make a long story short, I found if the battery grip switch was in the "ON" position, the thumb wheel control seemed to default to the battery grip leaving the camera wheels unfunctional. Turning the battery grip off, everything returns to normal. Maybe naively, I assumed this was an operational feature to isolate control to the chosen point of use (althought the shutter works from either point, regardless of whether the grip is on or not).
I'd be interested in knowing if this is a problem or part of the functional design.

I did not have/notice the problem before I upgraded the firmware, however I did not have a good play with all the settings until I had upgraded.
I usually switch on both the camera and the grip .
I will have a go this week trying it with and without grip/ grip switched on and off.
I supsect that it is just a glitch in the soft ware.

I recently upgraded the istd firmware, then after reading a few threads on here decided that it would be a good idea to play around with the white balance settings rather than just use AWB, and what a difference it made.
Thanks to all that have posted advice on WB use.
However, for some unknown reason the thumb wheel stopped changing the settings, it was moving but the WB indicator was not.
I was rattling off shots quite quickly and at first thought that the camera was still writing to the card, so slowed down a bit and still had the same problem.
I have the battery grip fitted and found that if I used that wheel it would start to work again on both wheels.
Turned the lot off and on again, and again a similar problem.(this was yesterday)
Had another go today and it appears to have cured itself. Maybe just a softare glitch.
Just wondering if any others have had a similar problem.
Before you ask all batteries were new/fully charged and yes I did turn the dial to WB setting mode.
Ps be prepared for more posts from me, not realy had the chance to use the camera due to working away from home, I am now on vacation and get to use it proerly at last.
any advice appreciated, I might try and reload the upgrade if it happens again, just thought that I would ask on here first.
