Brilliant post, Mike. Made me laugh out loud. 'Disappointment' is still a good picture though. It just doesn't have the steam. I suppose you could have put in some 'steam' in post?

When diesel fuel burns, it produces mainly water vapour (steam) and carbon dioxide, so I suppose it really was half a steam train!

I won't be there waiting !
A night shot could be pretty special - if it is a steam train that is. Maybe take a long telephoto as well, come on you know you want to!

Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

Your lack of imagination is astounding Mike - I'm sure you could have used your editing skills to replace the diesel engine with a steam engine from your back catalogue

Pedantic post.
It is a steam locomotive. The locomotive and carriages are the train.
Being more pedantic, it is a railway station, unless you speak US English, that ignorant version of British English.

... Or unless you are South Western Railway, which runs trains through Bournemouth... Our Train Stations. Perhaps it's a west country thing and it travelled to the US with emigrant ships from Plymouth. Took days picking a camera and lens, decided on the K-1 and 28-105mm WR, got there at 6.30am, chose my spot eventually and waited.
So at 6.50am I knew it should be passing through Bournemouth train station which meant it would be with me within minutes, heard a train, raised the camera at the spot it should reveal itself and ..... Carriages are there alright but where's the bloody steam train then !!!
Please click on photo to get my full disappointment in all it's glory
