Stargazers with astro-mountings?

I'm sure I'm not the only one with a driven camera mounting, is anyone else planning to have a bash at Orion this weekend?

It's high in the sky with no moon, and it's a photographers playground. The great nebula around Orions sword is a relatively easy target with several orders of magnitude of detail for the more adventurous/well equipped, then there's the flame nebula and the famous horsehead, both of which are a little harder to get.

I don't know if I'll be able to get out under the stars, but I'm planning to try if it's clear! who's with me?

I'm going to have a go on Friday or Saturday night.

However, every time I say I'll get my telescope out the clouds roll in.
But...fingers crossed

I built a haig mount, which having built, I am ashamed to say I have used very little. Did use father in laws driven telescope for some 15min guided exposures which was very cool.

Um...this may sound a phlipant answer...and it`s not meant to be but...um...take a look around and look for a thumping gert big "H",it`ll stick out like a sore thumb in the norther hemisphere...honest.

Don't need a telescope to see it.
As has been said, look for a whopping great big H. Look slightly south about 10 / 11 pm ( I haven't checked those times, but it should be up then ).
The three stars making up th cross piece are almost in a straight line and quite close together. And the top left hand star ( I hope I've got that right ) might have an orangy hue if the sky is dark enough.


Got my battery for the telescope mount charged up. Hoping to go out tonight with it.

My battery is charged. My telescope is cleaned. My camera is ready for tonight.

Yep..it's gone cloudy. I wonder if it will clear up, or are my plans scuppered

I know, and it's been crystal clear all week! darn it and I thought we might actually get some shots this weekend!

For anyone trying to find Orion...

Came out the house about 21:30 this evening and lo and behold,Orion was twinkling away in all it`s splender...suggest SSE direction (I`m sure all my Tonnas are facing south).
