Interesting to see the problems were all from private security not the Police who acted reasonably.
What makes me laugh is the idea a terrorist would conduct convert surveillance using a 5x4 camera on a tripod. Besides, they can probably get all they need from Google Street View!

It shows the kind of "a$$ holes" large corporation are hiring for security. They don't even know you have the right to photograph just about everything from a public place. Publishing is another story, but you can still photograph whatever you like.
Or they try to assert their power over your rights...

I'm going up the chain of command, so to speak with a winnipeg parks officials over an incident where i was harassed filming my family in a winnipeg park. the only rights you have in this world are the ones you are willing to fight for.
could anybody have mistaken this: link for nefarious activity? I don't think so.... these days, spycams and video phones mean nobody will get caught filming if they are up to no good and trying NOT to get caught.

The only thing you need to be certain of, is that you are on public property.
If 'security' try and use the "We'll call the police" line then let them.

Good to see the Police using some common sense and being very reasonable. I wonder if things would have been different if there had been no filming going on? Sadly some of the security people are just doing what they are told to do, which puts them in a very difficult position as they are not the law, nor do they have a good understanding of the law in relation to photography.
If these photographers had asked for permission to take images would it have been granted? Obviously security cameras are filming people which of course is not challenged because we have come to accept it as part of life. Perhaps the same group should go back out and challenge being filmed by the cameras they are not allowed to photograph?

The only snag is that it's often very unclear what is public and what is private, especially around new developments. What we need is a legal precedent that unless there is a clear sign and barrier then land must be assumed to be public in terms of our rights and responsibilities. For example, my garden has a fence and a gate. This clearly denotes it to be private. Meanwhile many shopping centres have privately-owned pedestrian areas which have nothing to differentiate them from the public street next to them. The only thing you need to be certain of, is that you are on public property.

In a vaguely related situation, IIRC some motoring law contains wording along the lines of "Public rights of way or land to which the public has access". This is why you can't legally let your 13 year old have a go at driving in a supermarket car park, as while it's private land everyone has access. Meanwhile it's fine in legal terms for farmers to teach their kids to drive in the fields providing there aren't any public rights of way running through them.
How about a similar clause to protect the rights of photographers?

Ever hear of a math disorder called dyscalculia?
I'm bad with numbers. That would include dates.....
Sometimes I go into the drivers licencing office and ask them to check if my licence is valid, cause I'm prone to forgetting my birthdate. When I was a teen, I remember one lady at the licence office asking me how old I was. She started laughing when I opend my wallet, pulled out my birth certificate and started counting...
"Sure laugh now lady" I said to her "but eventually, I'm gonna run outta fingers and toes, I'll have to strip naked to count to 21, and after 21 I'm screwed!"
hehehe...
When life gives you lemons..squirt the lemon juice into your enemies eyes, why should they get to have a better day than you?

They do say everybody has something wrong with them its just some people are so insecure about it they pick on others with more obvious problems

Excellent video about a bunch of snappers who went into the City of London and took photographs in a pulic place.
having been to Canary wharf a couple of weeks ago, I experience almost exactly the same approaches from security
Excellent video, refreshing to see the coppers on message AT LAST!!! And I hope those security guards learned something from the whole timewasting experience! ::

When will people learn, YOU HAVE NO PRIVACY IN A PUBLIC SPACE..

It appears that the police have got the message, but maybe it needs those same police to advise the security jobsworths that they are causing the problem and that they shouldn't harass people in a public space
