St Catherine's Chapel

Here's a unique viewpoint of this ancient Chapel, exposed on the hills near Abbotsbury, Dorset. These shots were taken from within the Abbotsbury Tropical Gardens, (a gorgeous place which I will show in more detail another time).

This viewpoint comes as a special surprise, carefully maintained over the years. Luckily, although using the 14mm lens at the time, I had the telezoom in the bag, so used the M75-150, at maximum zoom, f5.6

I've put one 14mm image in the middle just to show some perspective (can you spot the chapel ? !!)

K7 + SMC M75-150 f4 and Samyang 14mm f2.8 AF IF UMC, handheld at ISO 400

Carefully framed up for good effect -- I have been to see the swans at Abbotsbury but never knew about these gardens !

I love Abbotsbury, Nigel. I haven't been for years, though. (Nicely framed shot of the chapel, by the way.)

A very nice set Nigel. Number 2 works quite well as its never an easy task to get a good representation of fauna (for me anyway).

Like these Nigel. You can't win though. I prefer the trunk from #1, with the placement of the castle to the right in #3

Definitely no 1 for me, I like the vertical aspect. Haven't been to Abbotsbury for a while, but a winter trip to Chesil beach could be on the cards soon.

No.1 by far for me.

Number 1 for me, Nigel - I really like this composition. Nevertheless, it looks to me like the image needs a slight clockwise rotation, unless the building really does lean slightly to the left.

Thanks Philip .... If the Chapel was on level ground originally, I don't think it is now, or possibly it has sunk a bit to differing degrees. I couldn't get every wall straight with a level floor, so I made the left tower straight, but there is still an illusion of tilt, I agree, but I feel this is fairly authentic.
