snappychappy, basically search for spots and habitants, then little study the light of the spot and theoretical positions when the little guys would go. Then wait or go home and return 1 hour before sunset, when the sun is beginning to be at horizon level. Then hope for your theoretical predictions come true and give you the result you want. Yeah... and be quiet, don't wear shiny or white clothes.
BTW, the first two shots are taken when i got a little noisy and the squirrel got scared, so i had to jump fast from the ground and hope it won't run away. Happily, the little guy was more curious than scared, so I managed to take couple of shots. Yep, and keep it close to wide open - I go max to 5.6, but most often at 4.
But I assume you know that, cause i've seen some of your photos on Flickr and they are really good.

They are all great, but that second one is a classic! Usually it's the red squirrels that get people excited, but I think these would be hard to beat.

Do somebody know where i can go, preferably by bike, but train and bus is ok too, to shoot something more exotic? Close to Southamton.
Like some big lake or pond where i can find kingfishers or something. I've been to the parks in the city, but it's like ducks and coots, but i'm not so fond of photographing them anymore.

If you can swim across the pond, you're welcome to my backyard. You'll be able to take pictures of gophers, foxes, and a short walk from my place, you'll find beavers, deers, mooses and the occasional bear. Plus a few unidentified critters.
