Split screen

I notice that SRS sell various focusing screens for the K10D. Is there a Pentax one with a microprism collar and split screen, or are we left with the Katz Eye and Haoda screens only?

I've got a chinese ebay cheapy one on order which I hope will be fine, but would like to know about others in case this one isn't very good.

Pentax doesn't make split screen focusing screens so you need a 3rd party screen.

My concern is how different (3rd party) screens may affect metering. There also seems to be huge differences in cost depending which way you go. Any experiences with 'low end' examples, cost wise - please share!

What's especially reassuring about that article is that I bought my split screen from that vendor too I guess it won't arrive this week though

I think several people on the forum have fitted katzeye split screens. If you use the "search" facility you might be able to dig up the discussions.

Yeah I looked at Katz Eye but thought it was quite expensive for an "experiment".

I bought the split image screen from the same dealer around 3 months ago, fitted it to DL2 and its just fine. A bonus was that it has the wee tab so cant be fitted wrongly.

I use a cheap one of e-bay all the time - Brilliant so long as you don't use flash that much as it can go as much as -3av out

Eurgh! I had planned a 2-prong approach to dealing with my focus issues. One was to get the split screen. The other was to get a flashgun and use wider apertures. Now it seems a split screen affects flash metering? Oh dear

I'm also talking to SRS and Pentax about the problems I'm having. We'll see where I get.

Here's my progress report...

• Flashgun - arrived, very nice, works well, underexposes presumably to save highlights, but I can work with that
  Chinese focus screen - arrived, not top quality, easy to fit, not 100% perfectly lined up, works well nevertheless
  AF problems - decided to try another AF lens, sent 43 limited back to SRS, Royal Mail lost package, waiting for refund!

As things stand, I've the flash but no AF lens, so haven't tested whether the AF beam helps AF. I've not had time to test whether the flash exposure is affected by the focus screen. Once Royal Mail refund me, the plan is to get a lens which is AF but has quickshift, so I can correct any focus errors... probably the 70 limited.
