Spiderlings

A macro shot of a nest of Araneus diadematus spiderlings in my garden. These are common garden orb spiders. If you gently blow on the nest they instantly scatter in all directions like a firework burst and then regroup later. This nest about the size of a 10p coin. Taken with K5 and Pentax 100mm macro with AF160 ringflash at F25, 160th sec, ISO100.

Fantastically horrible!! I'm beginning to itch looking at it!!

Magnificent shot, its a shame most of them won't survive, mainly due to siblicide (is that a proper word?, if not it should be)


Reminder to self, next time I'm in the garden -- go spider hunting.
