Ah the culprit that killed poor Cock Robin, (if you believe in nursery rhymes)
That second shot is a belter Stuey, nice and crisp and a good catchlight in his beady little eye.
Nice to see someone tking time to snap the humble House Sparrow.

I put both up as I could not decide which I preferred - it seems to be a hung jury so far - perhaps Don has the casting vote at present

No 2 for me as well. I can never get that close to sparrows
around where I live, except when they are on a feeder.

Both excellent pictures. And really good to see a sparra, again!. Haven't seen one in ages.
When I was a kid, they were everywhere, but you rarely see them in London now. Plenty of bleedin' pigeons, but very few sparrows. It's a mystery!
That looks like a fine lens, too. Very sharp.

Algernon, I know what you mean about not getting close however, occassionally they surprise me by being somewhere I have not seen them before and they don't seem to mind people being within a few feet of them although this doesn't happen often.
Mowog, I agree it is nice to see a sparrow, I have read that they are beginning to favour non city environments but no one seems to no why according to the bits I have read.
As for the lens it was a £16.01 (plus postage) ebay jobbie, I bought it to play about with a prime lens of this focal length, size etc before spending much more on a more modern af type, I have now changed my mind and decided to stick with this at least for now as it seems to be a little cracker and is far better than I expected

I was out this morning (day off work - woo hoo) and wanted a classic Christmas card shot of a Robin in the ice/ snow - I failed on that count but these sparrow shots came out ok (I reckon).
Again, it was with my ancient Tokina RMC 300mm F5.5 M42 mf lens, however I did shift back to an af lens for my son's school play this afternoon, a bit of a culture shock
