I seem to remember that my very first action here after registering was reporting spam. It came in as a message if I'm not mistaken, not a thread.

In a large block of text it can make it easier to read to increase sentance spacing, but a double space is IMO excessive.
I think some fonts do this by defining the full stop to have a partial space after it, so that [full stop][space] becomes [stop][long space]. It doesn't work well fopr every use of the full stop though!
Increasingly software developers seem to be employing auto formatting - which can end up taking ages to correct, back to what is wanted/needed!

Sorry Hyram, I seem to have diverted your spam thread to something unrelated. I guess people just care about double spacing more than spam

No problem
I always use double spacing, although I would never have thought it might be a subject for a forum discussion

If every new user was moderated no one would have ever known about young new york asian escorts as posted this morning. They did accidentally post in the medium frame forum rather than general chat so I think there is some work for the mods.

Question to the mods, out of curiosity..
How many new members does this forum get signing up per day, or per week perhaps?

Ah yes, sorry, I should have looked. Thanks.
Looking at their post count, I asked the wrong question, really, and the right one may not be easily answerable:
How many people per day make their first post?
I only ask because it may not be very many at all, and perhaps it really wouldn't be very much in the way of workload to moderate people's first post.
How many spammers get through to posting like they did this morning? One a month perhaps? That's a lot of threads polluted, and quite a few emails for updated threads.
I guess they might get wise, and post an innocuous one first. Not an easy call, I realise.

Actually, no. It looks better, which is why people do it.
See how much better this one looks.
The slightly increased spacing between sentences makes them more readable, and it's not just über-pedants like George and myself that claim this.
Almost all books and newspapers use a typographic convention that separates sentences more than words. It's not necessarily by doubling the space, but the gap is bigger, and for good reason.
Not sure I'd go as far as to type though.
