No it's not correct, and it's quite mind-boggling that members of staff in any photo shop (even Jessops) should think they would.

Let this be a lesson - never go to Jessops!

Well... In fairness to Jessops, it can be made to fit, with some filing, a tube of superglue and a bit of sellotape!
No man is worth his salt, who has not been banned from at least one Forum, and two Flickr groups.

Nope. Late Minolta AF lenses will fit Sony but they won't fit anything else!

Then you have to get it off the body again.....

I've seen what happens when you buy a Sony anyway. You start believing that the coatings on older lenses are no good for digital and that you have to buy the latest shiniest ones.
Can't wait for my new focussing screen to turn up, should enable me to squelch that argument once and for all by ensuring that all of my photos are in focus!

of course there always those little screw in lens adaptors for video that you could screw onto your pentax lenses for some very fancy softfocus/vinetting special effects...
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

Nah, I already have a Pentax-F 35-80mm if I want soft focus!
Bought that lens thinking "Goody, an 80mm lens in a very compact package". Then found that images were dull and lifeless as well as being soft.

I'm curious: which focusing screen did you buy?

I've ordered one of the screens mentioned in this thread. Hopefully it'll work as well for me, as I love the old lenses (especially my M 28mm f3.5) but sometimes struggle with getting them properly focussed. I know about the green hexagon and beep but they don't always work in low light, and besides which it'll be better for composition if I'm looking in the middle of the viewfinder rather than peering at the little green hexagon to tell me it's in focus.

From what I can work out the problem only occurs when the lens is actually stopped down to the smaller aperture (as when using depth of field preview or with M42 lenses). As I only use K mount lenses on mine the lens is held at the largest aperture for focussing, and I don't have depth of field preview anyway (I use digital preview/histogram for the same thing). It shouldn't therefore pose a problem.

I don't know which focusing screen are you planning to get but I can confirm that K3 type from focusingscreen.com does not black out even at f5.6

Doesn't look too complicated - all you do is unclip the metal frame securing the old screen, remove it with tweezers, install the new one in the same way and refit the clip. I'm planning to follow the advice someone gave about working in the bathroom just after someone has had a shower, as apparently that will keep dust levels to a minimum. My old screen has a couple of specks and a lump of something or other on it anyway so I'm hoping to improve on this.

Cool cheers Matt, I use digital DOF also so shouldn't be a problem here also. I'll wait for yours to turn up so you can give a good write up on how to do it as the images they show on the ebay listing look rather minimal in what your supposed to do.
