Something isn't working

I just tried to enter a competition and discovered that the file I just edited and saved for the purpose simply won't appear in the "Browse" search window.
Every other file (incl the original) is present and accessible.
I saved a few others to experiment
No newly saved file is either present or accessible
Trouble is I can't discover which end is at fault. It still recurred with a complete reboot

Dunno how but I was working in my archive, external HD and PU was searching the usual drive C/ pictures
It's an odd one because drive C = a couple of clicks and the external drive = a long, long string of clicking to navigate to its depths - not something to do accidentally
