Some Smeggy Slutwalk pics

Wassup Folks, for personal reasons I haven't managed to get out for a decent shoot for such a long time (sniff) and as I'm feeling a little left out in the "show off your pics" stakes, I thought I'd present some I took a while ago. This is from a Slutwalk protest against against sexual harassment and abuse in Piccadilly. All K-5 MKI and various lenses

Great set with the last as my pick of the bunch. I like the "clothes don't" sign in #10.

#7 and #16 I'm not too sure of the noise/detail/clarity/HDR ????, a wee shade to much for me

A marvellous set, Smeggy. Nobody does this kind of thing better. The technical excellence raises them high above the common herd of street shots.

They have a style about them, and getting in close like you do means a very intimate connection with the event.

I find some of them, especially the black and white ones, a bit over-sharp though, with a grainy effect that's almost like reticulation.

So in general I prefer the colour shots.

'Smeggys Slutwalk' .... should I have a peek at that?? hard to resist with such a title - certainly grabs the attention ahead of a few more 'Lakeside Views' / 'City of London Details' / 'Great Crested Sparrow' type of threads !

What do we have? - some very creative, up close 'n personal images recording a most unusual, and worthy, street protest.

Well done for getting right in there - it involves a pluck and forthrightness that I doubt I could carry off myself, and as said above plenty of quickfire technique in action - great focussing and eyeing up the various compos, all very effective.

The best for me are the close up portraits - favourite being the long-haired guy with the shades and amazing reflection in them. And of course that B & W of the organiser, clearly intensive and focussed on the seriousness of the day, no doubt with personal experiences to tell - it all comes through in the shot.

One thing that I find a little odd - some of the OOF backgrouds, as well as showing strong bokeh, also have some movement blur - but the subjects are sharp ... I find this additional blurring distracts a bit. Is it the result of the particular 'in motion' shooting style used? I know you probably use high ISOs and consequently very high shutter speeds in this bright light, which is how the subjects are so sharp - maybe this slight movement in the background is a small price to pay for that?

I agree on the over sharpness of some of them . These were edited on my old CRT Monitors, which I only replaced relatively recently, and sharpening isn't so easy to gauge correctly. After finally getting some decent LED screens I had to adjust my sharpening right down in lightroom.

There's also some artifacts on some of them caused by the Lightroom 3 rendering, which has been eliminated in Lightroom 4.

Nigel, EXIFs are in the images if you've got the EXIF Viewer extension for your browser. This wasn't a high ISO shoot, given the daylight, I dont' think there's one above 400.
