Bret,
The product shots have come up well. Was the cable picking up noise before you replaced it?

No noise, just looking for "better" (read "different" sound). I heard what the change did on my Senny HD600s, I was hoping for something similar here, so changed without really listening on the original cable.
They work really, really well with electronica and flatter overproduced pop (take a step forward, Madonna). The bass is stupidly deep and clean, possibly a tad overblown, but I can deal with that with some stuffing.
Well-produced albums (Sting's "All this time", John Mayer's "Where the Light is double-CD) sound pretty damned good. These are for work.
Back to backs with the 600s (which cost around 3 times as much) are favourable. Robbie on "Beyond the Sea" is more present and less veiled. It's less tiring on the HD600s. For Jack johnson's "Sitting, watching, waiting" or "Vultures" from John Mayer, the d1001s bring the stage to right in front of you, the 600s let it be much further away.
I'm happy, find the sound great for a set of €100 cans.
Combined with my daughter's iAudio 7, they sound fantastic and I get them back with difficulty. If they were slightly cheaper, I wouldn't think twice, as they also fit her nicely, which is more than I can say for the 600s... and they're incredibly comfortable, even with the extra weight of the butyl.

.. are my new headphones.
Following instructions from head-fi, they have had their cable replaced with something from mogami:
The plug is from Switchcraft.
While I was at it, I damped the cups with some Butyl I had lying around from the car job.
Since I'd already done that and was listening, I figured I'd take some time and do some product shot practice while I could.
C&C welcome
