I first viewed these on the mobile, and liked them especially the last, but now on the monitor and Barrie's crops they are very good! I too wasn't sure about the traffic light, now it's a lovely Christmassy feel - good shot.

Starting from two good images, I think bforbes' cropping really works. As loadoftripe writes, there is 'a lovely Christmassy feel' on the second one.
Be well, stay safe, but most of all, invest in memories

I recognise both those views - but never been lucky enough to see them with those conditions

Two lovely scenes presenting a different view from the norm. I too know these locations well, and like John have never been there in winter.
They look slightly dark to me (a common issue with snow scenes), but that could be my eyes. I am between cataract operations and have both different brightness levels in each eye as well as different white-balance. My old eye looks like it has a yellow filter on it

Nope, not for me. The originals hit the nail on the head as far as I'm concerned. They shout dull, cold, grey weather. Lightening the snow takes some of that away to my eyes. But I do prefer Barrie's crops, in particular the traffic light in the original 2nd photo is a huge distraction.any better ?
