Not for me, I'm afraid. I think the diagonal lines probably work better - and the shell is crisper. But you have perhaps gone too far in trying for DoF, and lost one of the things I really liked about the first one - the bokeh. Also, I prefer the scale of the first - the smaller snail in the frame and (I think this is the case) taking the shot from slightly further away from the leaves. Also, looking at the two side by side, I think that the dark corners add some nice soft contrast - so perhaps in a diagonal shot I might be looking to have some of this in one corner perhaps? Or an area where the leaves were slightly shaded and darker in a corner? The blurred snail doesn't help in your latest shot either.
What I think this probably goes to how is how difficult it can be to re-stage a photo in order to act on comments. And also how, while comments might be valid, implementing them doesn't necessarily result in a better shot! Often I think they're helpful more to get you thinking about your photos and this may result in more success with a shot somewhere down the line.

Yeah I agree. The low angle on the first on was better as it meant more of the leaf was out of focus. As Mhuni said a slightly greater DOF on the original would have had more of the snail in focus but kept most of the leaf out of focus. With the new one everything is in focus, but it's not as enticing as the original.

I would use the first image without the snail. Just the shell and the leaves. Nothing wrong with the composition at all. The snail's eyes are blurry which spoils it for me. Nice idea though.
2x K10D bodies, 2x FA 28-200 3.8-5.6, DA 18-55, A 50 F2, 50mm Macro, 360 FGZ. Still saving for the 60-250 DA* Also have a Z10 35mm and a K1000 just for fun. IF PENTAX IS THE ANSWER, WHO CARES WHAT THE QUESTION IS...!

Thanks all.
It was good practice for me to re shoot and having to think about the shot in a different way.
The biggest problam was the moody snail really. He didn't want to be on top of the leaf and kept trying to away, so I was a little more hurried.

A re shoot of the snail on a leaf.
I couldn't find the original shell, so I had to find another one and unfortunatly this one still had an owner, who really didn't want to be photographed.
I tried to include as many suggestions as possible from the previous post, such as greater DoF, tripod, better angles on the leaf lines etc.
Let me know what you all think
