SMC Takumar / K

Yes, the 49mm filter size was abandoned for the K lenses, and then re-instated for the M series lenses.
The early bayonet (K) lenses are pretty much the same as the SMC Takumars optically, in fact even unchanged from the Super Takumars. It is also true that some later Super Takumars were Super-Multi-Coated and may even have the open aperture metering coupler of the SMC lenses.
So there is some overlap. Some K lenses survived the M series and were unachanged until the A series (such as the 15mm f3.5) and some are unchanged to this day (28mm Shift).
The K lenses are a little chunkier than the screw thread ones, hence the 52mm filter thread.
However, all are fine lenses and should be very satisfactory. It looks as though you will need to keep on searching for the appropriate lens hood, though.

Hi,
Both MXV and Ffordes are good sources for hoods. You may need to ring them first to check the filter size as they tend not to differentiate between the 52 and 49mm ones. The hood for the 35 and 28 K's were basically the same. The square one is more effective. For the 35mm, I find the best hood to use is the one for the Std lens. I haven't suffered from vignetting even with a thin filter but you may need to be careful with a thicker one.

I came about this as I am trying to find a lens shade for my K 28/3.5, apparently the only one that will fit is the one that was made for those couple of years specifically for the K, before and after are 49mm threads.
