SMC Pentax-A f1.4 50mm

Aplogies if anyone has asked about this lens already, I just picked one up in a shop this afternoon for £30 and was wondering if it was a good price and how this lens is rated, it's in near perfect condition and seems to work OK but I will wait for daylight to try it out properly. What is the difference between this and the M series version, it seems to work the same way with no extra features that I can find, ie uses stop-down metering or the green button to get the exposure and appears to only use spot metering? Am I missing something?

As Gareth says if you put it on the A setting then it will work with all modes - to do this, turn the aperture ring to the smallest aperture, press the button next to the letter A, then turn the ring until the A lines up with the aperture mark.

Yes. That is an absolute bargain! - I paid three times as much, for mine.

Thanks for the info, I bought the lens at Wildings in Bolton. They've got a few other Pentax lenses, a 70-150 which I did not bother looking at too much as one of my WR kit lens covers the same range, and a 50mm Pentax-A f1.7. Maybe I should have asked more about that one? I will try out the lens properly tomorrow, it is in perfect condition and I am looking forward to using it!

That 70-150mm sounds interesting - if it's a genuine Pentax then it must be a Takumar on an M42 mount.

There is a Pentax-M 75-150mm f4 which is a very nice lens. Mine tends to spend a lot of time with my MX as it's a handy size and matches the camera well. Paid £25 for it and they do come up around the £30 mark if you just bide your time and watch the listings.

If it is Wildings you got it from, well done. They NEVER have Pentax stuff in (well Manchester and Wilmslow never do)

The 70-150mm was a K mount, but I did not really look at it so not sure what model it is. They said they have had these lenses a long time, they are not a Pentax stockist. I went in to try and get a PKA adaptall mount, which unfortunately they did not have, and he pulled out the three lenses.

Just a note if anyone is thinking of visiting Wildings in Bolton I wouldn't go tomorrow there is a march on by the EDL, and the police are expecting trouble.....
