smc-m out at infinity?

Looking at the prices these lenses go for I doubt it'd be an economic loss to get it sorted out. I see anywhere between £50-£100 on a regular basis and they aren't as common as the f2.8 either.

Thing is, you could easily buy another and find it had been misused by a previous owner. What you have sounds as though it just needs a good clean and some adjustment.

Okie dokie... recommendations for a place to get it sorted? Asking for a quote isn't going to break the bank

I've used this chap before, but I've no idea how much it would cost for return postage for you. He charged me about £40 to have a Pentax-A 200mm f4 cleaned out which seemed fair to me considering the work required. His timescales were accurate and the work was carried out to a high standard, can't really ask much more than that!

Alan has done a nice job on some lenses for me too, highly recommended. I just had a Takumar preset 135mm f/3.5 regreased.

I spoke to him this morning, and he also suggested I check over the possibility of focus-bracketing. Well, using LV, I can get perfect sharpness at around 20m (that's from the 5th floor or so) directly down to the asphalt. As soon as I try the trees across the road, they're awful. Aperture makes also zero difference - stopping down to f/22 still doesn't really help. At distances of 3-4m, everything is really sharp and perfectly OK to this 15m or so, but after that it's awful. I'll give him a call again in the morning.
