SMC A 50mm 1.7

Help !!

Just tried my old pentax manual focus 50mm f1.7 on my new K10d - fired a couple of frames off without problems and then the shutter refused to fire - tried the 18-55mm kit lens and the camera works fine.

Also tried the lens on my Samsung GX1S -same thing -shutter won't fire.

Any ideas anybody ?

If you have the body on autofocus it will refuse to fire unless it thinks the lens is in focus. Try turning the body to MF and see what happens.

Should have thought of that myself (the fact that it's a manual focus lens provides a bit of a clue :blush

I was playing with my A 50 F1.7 last weekend (see photo in gallery) which is how I discovered the problem! I'm looking forward to trying the f/1.4 when it arrives.

I don't know about the K10d, but if you have 'use aperture ring' enabled and hold down the shutter button, then slowly turn the focus ring on a 'm' lens,when the centre comes into focus the camera takes. Works on my K110D and K200D.

That works if the camera body is set to AF-S or AF-C. With it set to MF you can take the shot even if it's not in focus.

I forgot to mention that you leave the autofocus switch on auto (AF), don't select manual focus(MF). I use this when I've got my manual lenses on digital bodies, it's easier then trying to focus the hard way.
