I've found that Rawtherapee and/or Gimp is far superior to the Silkypix stuff that came with my k-m.

Picasa can do basic editing...
I have tried Rawtherapee mainly for my Linux PC but also downloaded it for XP. It's OK but I find it rather slow. At least you can save edited images, unlike, as far as I can ascertain, Silkypix.

Picasa I steer well clear of as the last time I tried it, it infiltrated nearly every corner of my PC like some sort of benign virus!

Well that clears that one up. But maybe they shouldn't be using the Silkypix name? Whatever it is, it is not up to much in my experience, anyway. The design of the gui looks a little passe now. I guess all camera-makers have this problem. Whatever they bundle, I've so far found on Nikon and Pentax that full-on editing software from a third party does it better.

Look at the CD and you'll see it doesn't say "Silkypix", it says "Powered by Silkypix". The program name is "Pentax Photo Laboratory".

Silkypix Developer Studio has a completely different and vastly superior user interface, and many more features.

Silkypix would indeed be better off without their logo on the CD to avoid this common confusion, or much better still if they did a deal with Pentax to bundle the full program with the cameras - as it does with Panasonic in some cases.

I thought that was going to happen with the K-m, actually, or did I dream that?

Yep, it was a dream I am half way through the 30 day trial version.
