Sigma 150-500mm f5.6-6.3 DG OS HSM - £595

Any questions then please ask!
Hmmmm, I'm not amused. £639 was supposed to be a special price. Now it's even more special. I was under the impression prices were going up, not down, else I wouldn't have bought at the higher price.

Ummm, perhaps the people who don't have a FA* 85mm?
They're missing out....
I agree, 127.5mm FOV is odd. Maybe you could get an adapter for the D3 and then it will work as designed?

Best regards
I've only got the Samyang 85mm (not quite in FA* territory but not a million miles away either!) and find it very useful. Remember that 135mm used to be the standard telephoto prime lens, and the field of view isn't far off that. It's very good for stage shows/gigs and weirdly motorsport too, as you often get low light levels in forest rally stages. It has more or less replaced the 120mm f2.8 I used to use when in need of a fast telephoto, although I've no intention of selling that as it's a very nice, rare lens.

Yes Chris, any news on the 150mm OS HSM (and any other TLA's they can think of) Macro, I note Parks is listing it.

The 150-500mm is quite a steal at these prices, bought one a few days ago. Already got a 17-70mm OS HSM, the 70mm macro, Sigma 70-200mm HSM II and the Sigma 30mm f1.4. Went almost all Sigma for my AF lenses now, ready for the price increase.

Another question (to SRS and other dealers): where have all the Pentax-fit Sigma 100-300mm F4 EX DG APO HSM OS lenses gone to in the UK?:

They seem almost unavailable in the UK, although some Continental dealers appear to have them for around £900 inc p&p (with warrantee varying according the dealer's country)
K-3 II, K-3 and a K-70 from SRS (having now relegated the K-30 /"K-50" to a backup body), & some Sigma and Pentax lenses (and a lot of old 35mm gear!)

Like me for example.

Sigma 85mm f1.4 is on my list, but not in the immediate future. If it's anything like the 30mm 1.4 which I do have then I won't be disappointed.

Today, 6 April 2011, Sigma UK told me that the 100-300mm F4 in Pentax fit was discontinued in Japan a year ago, and it is certainly very difficult to find in this country - so can anyone confirm the situation?

Er... you have confirmation straight from the horses mouth, what more confirmation do you need?!

I never believe everything I hear from manufacturers: on another UK forum (AP), someone asked about the Praktica bayonet-fit lens contact arrangements, and I suggested that they contact Sigma who used to supply many lenses in this mount. Sigma then denied ever making this fit of lens - which is patently untrue as I have 2 for my old B20S

On further questioning, Sigma then said they could not be sure on the issue as no-one could remember if they did or did not!

the 100-300 was very hard to find late last year and was stopped a while back. The new one at ffordes was supposed to be their last one, as was the one at SRS.

They were not available new *anywhere* that I looked and I looked all over the planet.

I would wonder if it's a case of customer service staff who are trained to deal with problems and questions about the current range but know very little of the company history. Pentax are definitely unusual in keeping manuals for almost every camera they've ever made available as a PDF download, and that doesn't cover some of the more unusual models which I've only ever seen as photos on the K Mount Site.

The ranges offered by 3rd party manufacturers seem particularly poorly catered for by internet historians. I've searched in vain for a full listing of Tokina lenses for the Pentax K mount, for example.

As a comment on the 17-70mm Sigma, I bought one was was unhappy with the first results. The I checked the AF and found it needed a -6 correction.

Decent little lens after that. Might be worth checking if you buy one, therefore.
